    Why This Homepage . . .

When Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Explorer each already have a customized homepage? Because this homepage is controlled 100%, by you. The Netscape and Microsoft homepages each offer only limited customization. You may change any part of this "local" homepage in minutes, any part or all. And it may be done with no more software necessary, using what you already own, in Windows 95 or MS-DOS.

For example, you can hide (disable) or delete this message and the sample background swatches as displayed below. You can do this with any thing on the entire page as well as adding any of your own creations. And for a choice of backgrounds . . .

You note that presently it is just colored, not using a graphical background image (.gif or .jpg) file. One option, you can easily change colors, but much better, you presently have the optional selection from six .gif images, they are hidden, awaiting activation. You can also add as many more .gif image files to your C:\HOMEPAGE directory as you care to. When you edit this page, you will find all the instruction you need to get a very quick start in understanding the "HTML" Document, required for all Internet browser file access. You will see the line near the page top referring to: Body Background="bg1.gif" . . . just change the bg#, alternately 1 thru 6, to try out the new backgrounds. Note that you must also remove the "disable tags" for it to function. Easy instructions for hiding/unhiding are found just above the "bg" line, at the very page top. When you are ready, hide this entire instructional message. It then will not be visible, and taking up space while you are using your "Local Homepage", but it will still be here in the edit mode, when you may need it most.

Note that when you make a change and want to check it out, the most efficient way is to click on "Save", but do not exit. Then multi-task back up to your browser and click on "Reload or "Refresh". Do this in several ways, the easiest is use the "Edit Homepage" icon that should be configured into your Windows 95 "Start Menu", accessed by clicking on "Start" or the Windows logo. If you are working on several files, it is easier to drop into MS-DOS, change to your C:\HOMEPAGE directory, and edit individual files as wanted. You still multi-task the same way, pressing "ALT/TAB", quickly bouncing back and forth.

All you need to accomplish this is a working knowledge of your computer operating system, which you need anyway, if you care to successfully navigate and control your computer. This COEASE Local Homepage, and related side link pages offers much help in that area. And . . . this homepage contains links to the Netscape and Microsoft homepages. And their "personal" links can be set to access this COEASE Homepage, so you may have the best of both worlds.

Also "hidden", awaiting activation, a neat set of "hyper boxes", that you can use to replace any open "hyper links". You will also find easy instruction for adjusting box size, border size, etc. for the "hyper boxes", including using copy, paste, and adjust, to create any number of "hyper boxes" you would like. You will soon learn that using "cut, copy, paste, and adjusting", will enable you to create all kinds of functions, with hardly anything from scratch. Such as E-mail links, address (URL) lines, image lines (.gif or .jpg), side pages (.html or .htm), etc.

Why are things hidden? This page is designed as a learning tool. In it's present state, it is easy to work on, utilizing mostly just the very basics of "HTML". But there are enough advanced functions, hidden along with easy instructions, to quickly take you to a relatively advanced expertise level in cyberspace page designing. If you are not interested in this particular area of education, and care only to effectively navigate the Internet, Computer Ease will make all adjustments for you, eliminating this message and anything you don't want and adding any thing you do want.

If you are outside the Kingman, Arizona area, no problem. Communicate with Computer Ease by E-Mail. Use any of the many E-Mail links found through out these pages, or this one: E-Mail to Computer Ease

A good place to begin is experimenting with the background image. Below are the background swatches, identified as : bg1 through bg12. . . .

Use the "Edit Homepage" icon in the "Start" menu, as just described, find the correct line under the page top instructions, unhide it, then alternately change and save the "bg numbers" 1 thru 12, use "ALT/TAB", multi-tasking back to Windows 95, and checking the results. Remember you must click on the browser's "Reload or Refresh" to put your change into effect. Continue with "ALT/TAB" as desired, finally, in the "Edit Mode", clicking the upper "File, and Exit", when finished.

The background swatch line below, (bgsamp.htm), is a separate function from this message, and may be disabled (hidden) alone, or inclusive with this message section, depending where you care to place the "hide tags".

    Background Option Swatches

    Image Options

There is a duplicate of the below image (img1bl.gif) in place awaiting configuration. It is blank, without copy. Design it to suit your self. Use any image file conversion program, such as PaintShop Pro, convert it to a .bmp file and design it in Windows Paint. When ready convert it back to a .gif file. Just below the main "CONTROL LINE" above, containing theBODY TEXT= BGCOLOR= LINK Colors, BACKGROUND=, etc., you will find the IMAGE LINE. List the image name (img1bl.gif), per the instructions there. Actually, to make it even easier, the image file name (img1bl.gif), is already in place. To try it blank, just "unhide it. You should note that you may use any .gif or .jpg files for these purposes. Some may be too big, or too slow, just experiment with them. They are available all over the Internet, most free for the picking.

All associated homepage files should be in C:\HOMEPAGE. In the "Edit Mode", these visible messages will appear along with the hidden instructions. When you are ready, hide any part of this page.

With very little effort, become an "HTML Homepage Pro". The only prerequisite is a working knowledge of your computer and any version of Microsoft Windows, preferably Windows 95. Beneath this page front are easy instructions. In seconds you can change to any one of 12 designed backgrounds, change the page font and link colors, add a customized image, your own text, and more. You will have quickly elevated your personal HTML expertise, all by beginning with a hands on working model. If you would care to design an online Internet Homepage, you are 90% there.

Want some failproof "goof up" insurance? First thing:

With the editor, load C:\HOMEPAGE\HOMEPAGE.HTM and "Save As" C:\HOMEPAGE\HOMEPAGE.BAK

Just click on your "Edit Homepage and Personalize" icon, it should be configured into the Windows 95 "Program Group". Or use Edit in any manner in which you are accustomed. These instructions are randomly found between line number one and approximately line 360. The entire file is 1200 plus lines, taking only about 50Ks of disk space.

When you feel deserving . . . you may "unhide" the hidden animated logo, connect.gif, and become qualified as "Connected"

The "hyper box", a link to Director Todd Lutz's Homepage, may easily be set to any size, larger, or small enough for several in a row to span the page, border size, font and background colors all optional. COEASE Internet -Quick Link Directory

Use "Edit, Find, Find what": -Q

Be Happy, you can access most of the World's
Information, with just the click of your mouse.

  • Quick Link Access to Internet Sites

Use the Start Button . . . "Edit Homepage" Icon to Add Link Sites

In this MS-DOS Edit mode, do you know how to save and exit?
. . . Just press the "ALT" key, "Enter", and follow the upper left menu.

Why this file, we already have "Netscape Bookmarks", or Microsoft "Favorites"?

Again, why a link directory, we already have bookmarks? "The Internet Quick Link Directory" should be considered your personal library, information gathered from worldwide. Everyone has a library, ranging from a few books in the corner, to an exquisite" library suite". It usually contains volumes of much personal value, and volumes of little interest, but usually books you paid for, thus you do not throw them away. The contents tone of your library reflects your interests, job, profession, hobby, sports, your everyday life hopes. Most consider their library a prized possession. They screened through much "junk", to have the quality that exists. The expensive" clunker volumes" on the shelves are just living examples to be more careful and develop a better screening discretion.

The Internet Link Directory is just that, your personal library, main difference, it is volumes easily gathered from world wide sources, and it is "free". The bookmarks are only the screening process. You have no qualms in throwing away the "clunkers". Soon your library can be highly refined, guided only by your personal interests. It will be organized to suit you, neat shelves, all lined up alphabetically, by category, or anyway you choose. You can re-arrange easily, culling when desired. It too, will be one of your most prized possessions.

Another way to make your computer more efficient, and easier to use. The Bookmark file will become very long, and there is little way to write descriptions. If you use the Internet much, you may accumulate hundreds of sites in your Bookmarks, suggesting occasional deletions. So you will have to take time to analyze them, or risk losing valuable links. As you find new links worthy of permanent record, copy from the Bookmarks, using the Bookmark editor that should be configured into your "Start" menu. Copy from the Bookmarks over to your permanent Quick Link Directory, in the lower section of your Homepage (C:\HOMEPAGE\HOMEPAGE.HTM) making necessary line adjustments and recording any desired description. You may add to the existing categories, or even change the ones that are there. Organize the entire file to suit your self.

Remember the fast ways for going top to bottom or visa versa, on most Windows documents including this Homepage, using CTRL/END and CTRL/HOME.

You may also type in new links from scratch. And, if you are not familiar with "Edit", to add a new site you do not have to type the whole line from scratch. Just copy the last entry and paste below it. You may then simply make the necessary changes, usually just the name before (.COM), and the title at the end. Immediately above this you may include a detailed description. Always place a "line break tab" (Br), after the last word. A (P), "paragraph break", will create a blank line. Note that the (Br or P) must be enclosed with the "smaller than" and "greater than" symbols, they resemble small left and right arrow points, as you will see in other listings. Note this procedure refers to the most common URL (address), such as http://www.name.com, there are many others not so common, or as easily recorded. Such as:
http://www.mohave.cc.az.us, and some are much longer. The best way of recording these is copying from the Bookmarks.

Note that the link color may be changed to suit, visited links can be set to change color after use. You may use the master link color control near the page top or you can set colors individually. You can change the color tag numbers manually by using other existing colors for example, or you can use the "Webthing" HTML editor, excellent Freeware, especially if you are in your early levels of expertise.

Keep in mind that the entire COEASE Personal Local Homepage structure is designed to serve as a training aid, assisting you with Internet navigation, and general computer use. Thus this message, and any text through out the system, may be appended, revised, or totally deleted. Use it in the manner that best serves your needs.

Did you notice the note just above, the "Find -Q"? You can also just click on the "Find Button", if you have it set to viewable. It must be set under Netscape "Options", then "View Tool Bar". The -Q" is just the beginning for a quick "Key Word" search for this whole page. Set it up to suit your self, up and down the page, using what ever keyword setup you like. You could even create a "Key Word Table of Contents". Especially useful would be a keyword setup for your "Quick Link Directory". Finding links by category, type. etc.

Following is good start for your Quick Link Library

Possible inactive links . . . web sites just as stores in a city sometimes move or even close down their business. On the Internet this results in a "dead link". The idea of this link library is for you to add to it, and also to delete unwanted items, thus the cure for "dead links".

    -Midi Files

The COEASE Personal Local Homepage contains 12 Midi choices for your background music. In the "Homepage Edit" mode, find the correct line by searching for (.mid), and change as desired. The 12 choices are listed there. You can down load a large variety of MIDIs from the links below. Know how to check out their sound? From Windows 95, use Programs, Accessories, Multimedia, Media Player, Device, and set to "MIDI Sequence". Just browse to the right directory, load and play. Copy the ones you like into the C:\HOMEPAGE directory.
