In 1997 according to Alta Vista there were 1550 Search Engine facilities available on the web. But still 90% of all users access the first "10/15 search engines in the following list. Currently there are a few thousand search engines, large, small, new old etc. Counting all search engines, directories, classifieds and various types of link pages there are in exess of 300,000 places to list your website. How important are the bulk of them, like the old saying "every bit counts", true, but in most cases to a very litle extent. Still about 90% of the world uses the top 16 listed in the "new favorites".
They all have their advantages and disadvantages, if one don't work, try another.
